Welcome to Duel, a platform for playing and competing at backgammon online. This text is an agreement between Duel ("we") and you (the "user") and sets out what each side may expect from the other. By creating an account or using any part of Duel you accept these terms and the documents that belong to them: the Privacy Policy, the Cookies Policy and the Community Policy. If you do not agree with any part of them, please do not use the services.
We may update these terms. The date of the latest change is always shown at the top of this page, and important changes are also announced on the site. Continuing to use Duel after a new version is published means you accept it.

2. Who may use Duel
2.1 Minimum age: To create an account you must be at least 18 years old, or the age of majority where you live, whichever is higher.
2.2 Your local laws: It is your responsibility to make sure that using Duel, and its paid features in particular, is allowed where you live. Duel is not responsible for the consequences of use that does not comply with your local laws.
2.3 Real people only: An account is for the personal use of one human being. Creating accounts for bots, or handing an account over to software, is not allowed.
2.4 Equipment and connection: You provide the device, an up-to-date browser and a stable internet connection. A slow or dropped connection on your side does not stop the clock (see Matches and rules of play).
3. Your account
3.1 Sign-up details: Signing up takes an email address, a username and a password. Your email is not confirmed with a code at sign-up, so getting it right is up to you. Password recovery works only through that address; if it is wrong or belongs to someone else, access to the account may be lost for good.
3.2 Username and display name: Usernames and display names are unique and visible to others. Names that are offensive or misleading, that impersonate another person or the Duel team, or that advertise something are not allowed, and we may change them.
3.3 Account security: Do not share your password with anyone. Whatever is done through your account is treated as done by you. If you suspect someone else has got into your account, change your password immediately and tell support.
3.4 One person, one account: Each person may hold one account only. Selling, renting, transferring or sharing an account is forbidden. If several accounts are found to belong to the same person, all of them may be restricted or closed.
3.5 Signing in with Google or Telegram: If you sign in with a Google or Telegram account, the terms of those services also apply between you and them. What we receive that way is described in the Privacy Policy.
3.6 Closing your account: You can ask support to close your account at any time. Withdraw any withdrawable balance first. The record of matches you played is kept in anonymised form so that your opponents' statistics stay correct.
4. Matches and rules of play
4.1 Rules of each variant: Every match is played under the rules of its variant as implemented on Duel. The variant, speed and length are shown before the match starts, and by entering it you accept them. Moves that the rules do not allow are simply not accepted.
4.2 Dice: Dice are rolled randomly by Duel's server. No player, and nobody at Duel, can know or influence a roll in advance. Bad luck with the dice is not a reason to void a result.
4.3 Turn time and time bank: Every turn has a time limit that depends on the speed of the match. Once it runs out, time is taken from your time bank. If the time bank runs out as well, you lose the whole match, not just the current game. The server's clock is the one that counts, not the one displayed on your device.
4.4 Disconnections: If your connection drops or you close the page, the match is not paused and your clock keeps running. You can come back and continue as long as you still have time. A loss caused by your internet connection, device or browser is your own responsibility.
4.5 Confirming moves: Until you confirm your turn you can take your moves back. Once the turn is confirmed or over, the moves are final.
4.6 Doubling cube and resigning: Offering a double, accepting or refusing it, resigning a game and resigning the match are all final once submitted. Refusing a double means giving up the current game at its current value.
4.7 Results are final: The result recorded by the server is the official result of the match. If you believe a technical fault on Duel's side affected a result, tell support within 7 days of the match and include the match ID. The server's records are the basis of any review.
4.8 Spectators and public records: Matches can be watched by other people, including visitors who are not signed in. Your display name, profile picture, match results, statistics and ranking are public.
5. Fair play
Duel is a place where people compete on skill. The following are forbidden:
- Using a bot, a script or any tool that plays for you or talks to Duel's servers automatically.
- Getting help from an analysis engine, an AI or another person during a live match.
- Colluding with an opponent, losing on purpose, or any staged match meant to move balance, points or ranking.
- Playing with more than one account, or with somebody else's account.
- Exploiting a bug or technical flaw. If you find one, report it to support.
- Deliberate stalling, deliberately abandoning matches, or any behaviour whose only purpose is to annoy the opponent.
To detect violations we may review moves, timing and patterns across matches. Where a violation is found we may void results, take back points and prizes gained through it, and restrict or ban the account. The behaviour we expect is described in detail in the Community Policy.
6. Wallet, paid matches and payments
You can play on Duel without paying anything. The clauses below apply to the paid features, wherever and whenever they are available to you.
6.1 Deposits: Deposits are made only through the methods shown inside Duel, and only with a payment instrument that belongs to you. Minimum and maximum amounts and any fee are shown before you pay.
6.2 Entry fees and prizes: The entry fee, the prize and Duel's share are shown before you enter any paid match or tournament. The entry fee is taken from your wallet when the match starts and the prize is added to the winner's wallet once the result is recorded.
6.3 Withdrawals: Withdrawals are paid only to an account that belongs to you. To prevent fraud and money laundering we may ask for identity verification or further information before a withdrawal and hold it until the matter is cleared up.
6.4 Nature of the balance: A Duel wallet is not a bank account, earns no interest and cannot be transferred to another user.
6.5 Payments are final: Payments and the entry fees of matches that were played are not refundable, except where a technical fault on Duel's side is involved or the law requires otherwise.
6.6 Technical faults on our side: If a match cannot be completed because of a technical fault on Duel's side, its entry fee is returned to both players' wallets.
6.7 Suspicious transactions: We may hold a transaction or balance that appears to be connected with a violation, fraud or the use of someone else's payment instrument until our review is finished.
6.8 Taxes: Any tax or duty that applies to your prizes under the law where you live is your responsibility.
7. Tournaments
7.1 Terms of each tournament: The variant, capacity, entry fee, starting time and prize table of a tournament are published on its page, and you accept them by registering.
7.2 Not showing up: If you are not present for your match at the announced time, your clock runs and you may lose that match.
7.3 Changes and cancellation: We may reschedule or cancel a tournament, for example when too few players have registered or because of a technical problem. If a tournament is cancelled, entry fees are returned.
7.4 Prize review: Prizes are reviewed for fair play before they are paid. A prize obtained through a violation is not paid.
8. Responsible play
Backgammon is meant to be enjoyed. Only play for amounts you can afford to lose, and never play to win back losses.
8.1 Time-outs and self-exclusion: If you feel your play is getting out of hand, message support and we will close your account for a period you choose. During that period you cannot enter paid matches.
8.2 Minors: Duel is not for anyone under 18. If children or teenagers can reach your device, looking after your account and password is up to you. An account found to belong to a minor is closed.
9. User content
Your display name, profile picture, messages and anything else you publish on Duel remain yours, and you are responsible for them. By publishing them you allow Duel to display them across the site, free of charge, in order to provide the services. Content that breaks the law or the Community Policy may be removed without notice.
10. Intellectual property
The software, design, graphics, boards and checkers, texts, name and logo of Duel belong to Duel. You are given a personal, non-commercial, revocable permission to use the services as they are offered. Copying, reverse engineering, automated data extraction, building a look-alike or any commercial use of any part of Duel without our written permission is forbidden.
11. Privacy
What information we hold about you and what we do with it is explained in the Privacy Policy and the Cookies Policy. Both documents are part of these terms.
12. Availability and changes to the services
We work to keep Duel available at all times, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted or error-free service. Parts of the services may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates or security reasons. We may also change, add or remove features.
13. Limits of liability
Duel's services are provided "as is". To the extent the law allows, Duel is not liable for indirect losses, lost profits, or losses caused by your device or internet connection, by third-party services (such as a payment gateway, Google or Telegram), by the behaviour of other users or by the outcome of the dice. Nothing in this section limits liability that the law does not allow to be limited.
14. Suspension and termination
14.1 By Duel: If you break these terms, or where legal or security reasons require it, we may, in proportion to the matter, issue a warning, restrict some features, suspend the account temporarily or ban it permanently. Balance obtained through a violation cannot be withdrawn; your legitimate balance can be withdrawn after review.
14.2 By you: You may stop using Duel at any time and ask for your account to be closed (see Your account).
14.3 End of the service: If we decide to shut Duel down entirely, we will give advance notice and a reasonable opportunity to withdraw any remaining balance.
15. Complaints and general provisions
15.1 Complaints: If you have a complaint, raise it with support first. We look into every complaint and reply within a reasonable time. In a dispute about how a match went, the records kept on Duel's server are decisive.
15.2 Validity: If part of these terms is found to be invalid, the rest stays in force. If Duel does not exercise a right on some occasion, that is not a waiver of the right.
15.3 Governing language: These terms are published in several languages. If the translations differ, the Persian version prevails.
16. Contact
For any question, report or request about these terms, email Duel support. If it concerns a match, include the match ID.
By continuing to use Duel you confirm that you have read and accept these terms and the documents that belong to them.
